Yom Kippur Morning Service
9:30am - 2:15pm
The morning service includes Yizkor, a time for remembering loved ones who have died, following the reading of the Torah, at approximately noon. The Musaf service at 1:15pm includes the beautiful liturgy unique to the High Holydays. Family and youth programs start at 10:00am, and childcare ends after Shacharit, at 1:15pm (beginning again at 5pm). Guests are welcome, even if you are not able to pre-register.
It is traditional to dress entirely in white during Yom Kippur and to refrain from wearing leather, especially leather shoes. We invite you to join us in honoring one or both of these traditions.
Make Your Fast Easier – Don’t Go Home!
You can spend the day with us in reflection, learning, and enjoying the outdoors. Gann Academy is very near Waltham/Belmont conservation land, with walking and bike trails. Enjoy a walk around this beautiful neighborhood.
Qigong with Peter Wayne: 3:40pm
Qigong (Chi Kung) is an ancient Chinese practice that employs slow intentional movements, coordinated with breathing and imagery, to strengthen and relax the physical body and mind. Come join Peter Wayne of the Tree of Life Tai Chi Center, for this wonderful opportunity to rest your mind and energize your body in the waning hours of Yom Kippur. No previous experience is necessary!
Mincha: 4:30pm
An interactive program, inspired by the CDT Understanding Race and Economic/Class Diversity working groups, initiates a conversation and reflection about economic reparations for the legacy of slavery, in the context of teshuvah. Childcare resumes at 4:30pm.
“Eleh Ezkereh” Remembrance: 5:45pm
Our memorial service includes a remembrance of CDT member Noah Elan Marcus.
Ne’ilah: 6:30pm
Ne’ilah, the dramatic finale to the day, begins at 6:30, culminating with Havdallah and a communal shofar-blowing (bring your own shofar!).
Havdallah & Break-fast: 7:15pm
A light Break-fast will be served following services at 7:15pm.
