We continue the Shavuot holiday with a morning service from 10am-10:55am, combining prayer and meditation, songs of Hallel, and a Yizkor service, during which we will share the Torah, the wisdom and values, that we have received from loved ones no longer alive.
Starting at 11am, there will be three consecutive programs on Shavuot themes:
11:00am Hard Night: Studying Torah in an Anxious Time with Rabbi Shahar: Shavuot is the holiday when we celebrate receiving and learning Torah. But in this socially distanced, Zoomed reality, it can be challenging to stay grounded, focused and open-minded in our relationship to learning Torah. In this session combining rabbinic wisdom from Pirkei Avot and contemporary poetry, we will explore the experience of studying Torah in a challenging time, the value of looking at the trees, and how we can cope and grow, with some insight from our ancestors. The poem Hard Night, by Christian Wiman, can be found HERE.
11:30am Slo-mo-yo-flo with Esther Kohn: We'll explore Shavuot themes through a gentle yoga warm up and slow, flowing movement. Re-energize and renew as you rediscover your ability to move! Yoga mat or carpet recommended.
12:00pm Blintz Making with Marcia Okun & Josh Lieberman: It is a Shavuot tradition to eat dairy dishes on Shavuot, and cheese blintzes is an Ashkenazi favorite! You’ll need to prepare the filling ahead of time, so please use this recipe. The workshop will guide you through the blintz making process (plus a little eating at the end).
