Sephardic Selihot Source Sheet
All are invited to join Admin Assistant Rahab Hiram as we gather to hold each other (and our "missed marks") in the Sephardi-style! Traditionally, Sephardim recite Selihot before shaharit every weekday at the crack of dawn for the month of Elul and throughout the Ten Days of Teshuvah. The Sephardic custom of Selihot is unique in its participatory nature: in addition to us all singing and praying together, each person is encouraged to take their own individual moment to connect with the Divine.
Each Selihot service concludes with a resounding blast of the shofar to complete the process of waking up our spirits — feel free to bring your own! If there is a minyan present, those needing to recite Kaddish will have an opportunity to do so as well.
Schedule (Come to any or every session!)
- Elul (September 4-30): Mondays & Wednesdays at 7:30 am
(Zoom only)
- Erev Rosh Ashana & Ten Days of Teshuvah (October 2-9):
Mondays & Wednesdays at 8:30 am (hybrid)
Contact Rahab Hiram at rh.webbe@dorsheitzedek.org with any questions. We hope to see you there!
