Thursday, September 19, 2019 19 Elul 5779

7:30 PM - 9:00 PM60 Highland Street: Living Room (Parlor)

There is a rich tradition of singing selichot, “penitential” poem prayers, all throughout the month of Elul, leading up to Rosh Hashana. In Ashkenazi tradition, selichot tend to focus on concern about our actions over the past year -- what if we can’t make it up to ourselves and to God? Sephardi selichot often include more major key tones, joyous singing based on the assumption that we are praying fully and will be heard. In this workshop we will learn some traditional and contemporary Elul music, exploring their meanings while singing our hearts out.
