Passover 5783
Passover 5783
Passover begins this year the evening of April 5, and continues through April 12 (the Reconstructionist calendar follows the Israeli calendar, celebrating Passover for 7 days; some choose to observe for 8 days, through April 13). As we celebrate zman cheruteynu, the “season of our freedom,” read on for opportunities for learning, spiritual enrichment, seder matchmaking, and more!
Preparing for Passover Workshop with Earnest Arky Solomon
Sunday, April 2, 10:00-11:00 am
CDT Religious School (Cabot Elementary, 229 Cabot St, Newton)
Looking for some great ideas to make your seder engaging for people of all ages? Wondering how to get kids excited about Passover rituals? All are invited to join Earnest for this pre-Pesach workshop, focused on creating engaging seders for multi-generational gatherings.
Beyond the 10 Plagues: God in the Passover Story with Rabbi Toba Spitzer
Sunday, April 9, 10:00-11:00 am
CDT Religious School (Cabot Elementary, 229 Cabot St, Newton)
In the traditional Passover haggadah, Moses is not mentioned - the Exodus from Egypt is all God’s doing! And in some contemporary haggadot, God isn’t mentioned at all. What is a Reconstructionist approach to thinking about the traditional Exodus story, and how we might we reimagine the Divine as the “Power That Makes For Liberation”? What spiritual teachings does Passover hold for us? Come join the conversation!
7th Day of Passover Service
Wednesday, April 12, 9:30-11:30 am
CDT Sanctuary
Traditionally, the 7th day of the Passover week celebrates the Israelites' crossing of the Reed Sea. We will celebrate the final day of Pesach with a service that includes Hallel and Yizkor, an opportunity to remember loved ones who are no longer with us. For those remembering a loved one, yizkor candles are lit the previous evening on Tuesday, April 11.
First Night Seder Matchmaking
Are you looking for a place to enjoy Seder on Wednesday, April 5? Or are you able to welcome any extra guests to your home for Passover? We will not be hosting a communal seder this year, but do want to be sure that every CDT member who would like to attend a seder is able to do so. We would love to match people needing a 1st seder home with people who have some extra room at their tables. It's a wonderful way to get to know more Dorshei members, and this way Elijah won't be the only special guest at your table!
Submit your request through our Seder Matchmaking Form as soon as possible or by Wednesday, March 29 at the latest. We will do our best to match people, but it all depends on your participation! Early requests will be accommodated first.
Thank you to our prospective hosts for welcoming guests, and thanks to our prospective guests for helping building community!
