Walking A New Path with Rabbi Toba Spitzer
Wednesday, December 11, 2024 • 10 Kislev 5785
7:30 PM - 9:00 PMCDT (60 Highland St, West Newton)
Two thousand years ago, the Israelite prophet Micah famously wrote: "God has told you, human being, what is good, and what YHVH seeks from you, only this: to do justice, to love compassion, and to walk humbly with your God." In this class, we will explore what it means for us, as American Jews, to follow this instruction at a moment of crisis for our community and our world. This exploration will include an inquiry into Jewish trauma, both historically and in our own lives; definitions and debates over antisemitism and how we might respond; our own connections to, and wrestles with, current events in Israel/Palestine; and how we might utilize the prophet Micah's instructions to help us forge a new path of justice and love in this moment, beyond the brokenness that characterizes so much of American Jewish communal life. Participants are encouraged to bring a spirit of inquiry, and open hearts and minds.
If attending in person is not possible for you, please contact Rabbi Toba, t.spitzer@dorsheitzedek.org.
