GBIO Reentry ACTION Team: Civil Rights Committee Hearing of the Boston City Council

Wednesday, April 20, 2022 19 Nisan 5782

2:00 PM - 5:00 PMMayor's Office of Returning Citizens (22 Drydock Ave, Boston, MA 02210)

The City Council is holding a hearing on reentry issues and GBIO's reentry team is testifying. We need at least 100 people to show support for full investment for the Office of Returning Citizens, because Mayor Wu is signaling she may back off of her commitment to 1.9 million dollars in investment. The Office only has one caseworker to serve all 3,000 people who come back from incarceration this year. It's not enough! Show up for this important issue!!

The GBIO Reentry Team is staging an action at a Civil Rights Committee hearing of the Boston City Council, bringing speakers to give testimony that the Mayor's Office of Returning Citizens should be funded at $1.9m as promised by the Mayor and most of the City Councilors, and not the $1.28m that is currently in the Mayor's proposed budget. The Boston Office of Returning Citizens currently only has 1 case worker capable of serving only 300 people a year. Without staff and more case workers, thousands are left without support for housing, jobs, therapy, getting an ID, and more.  GBIO hopes to turn out at least 100 people, either in person or on Zoom, with a critical mass of Boston residents and those with deep ties in the city.

Fill out this registration form if you can make it (you can indicate if you’ll be attending in person or on Zoom, and will receive a Zoom link if the latter).
