High Holy Days Organizing Committee
The High Holy Days are the most important holidays of the Jewish calendar and an important annual event for every congregation. The most well attended services of the year; the High Holidays are a vital fund-raising event for our congregation and a good opportunity to introduce our community to prospective new members. Planning begins months in advance with the formation of the High Holiday Organizing committee, led by the congregation presidents, in consultation with our Rabbi. The committee is made up of several sub-teams, including ritual, children's programming, publicity, food and logistics.
For the past several years, a coordinator (or co-coordinators) has had overall responsibility to oversee the work of all the sub-teams, deal with space and logistics and in general ensure that the High Holiday observances go smoothly. This team approach works best when members of each sub-committee take ownership of their individual areas. It is likely that some re-structuring of the sub-team assignments into smaller tasks will occur to help achieve this in future years.
