When you hear terms like structural deficit, capital stabilization fund, and triple A bond ratings, do you feel confused? Are you wondering how to become a more informed voter and citizen? Congregation Dorshei Tzedek is sponsoring a learning session and discussion, beginning with a presentation by members of the Newton League of Women Voters who have spent the past two years studying Newton’s funding and its budget. Participate in a balanced discussion of both the May 20 override ballot question and the long-term issues facing the city, along with members of other local faith-based organizations, in a spirit of respect and inquiry.Eat, Pray, Learn about Congregation Dorshei Tzedek

Celebrate Mother's Day at the Dorshei Tzedek Mens' Softball Team Game
Sunday, May 11, 2008, 10 am
On Sunday May 11 Temple Isaiah Red Lox-2 @ Dorshei Tzedek at Forte Field, Newton.
CDT is tied with Temple Isaiah-2 in the standings of the NL Division of the Jerusalem Conference, with both teams sporting 1-1 records. Temple Isaiah-2 opened the season with a 26-7 win over Temple Beth Shalom-1 of Needham, but fell the next week to Beth Elohim-2 of Wellesley, the team that Dorshei Tzedek defeated on opening day by the score of 12-7. With both teams trying to get back on the winning track, this Sunday's Mother's Day game looks to be a competitive game.
Celebrate Mother's Day. Continuing the tradition from last year, every mother, grandmother, step-mother, foster mother, or surrogate mother who is related to a member of the CDT team will receive a special souvenir. Every mother, grandmother, step-mother, foster mother, or surrogate mother who is not directly related to a member of the team will receive an extra special souvenir. Every mother who is a spouse of a player who sends their children to the game with their dad, will still get a good deal by having a free Sunday morning to sleep in, although would you really want to miss our game? As a special incentive, the CDT Softball Team will also donate $5 for every mother plus $5 for every run scored to the Mothers' Walk for Peace. We feel that mothers are just as valuable as runs when it comes to our team's priorities. And for the rest of the congregation who are not mothers, did you know that a part of the commandment, "honor your mother…" was missing for many years…that commandment was recently located and translated and reads, "honor your mother by bringing her to the CDT Men's Softball Game."
So come out and cheer for the team…we play better when we hear our mothers cheer. There will still be time to go to Lilac Sunday or to go out for brunch.
